Organisations that lead wellget better results.
Governing Water works with organisations across Canada and internationally. We build the capacity to navigate complexity, govern with confidence, and do the basics exceptionally well.

We build capacity through
training, coaching, and facilitation.
Not complicated frameworks. Not theoretical models. We help people get curious, think clearly, and do the basics exceptionally well. That is where real organisational capacity comes from.
Practical, grounded programs that leave people with something they can use the next day. Governance, leadership, project management, AI literacy, emotional intelligence — designed around your organisation, not a generic curriculum.
Explore Training →One-on-one and group coaching for leaders navigating pressure, complexity, and accountability. We create space to think — not just react. And we stay long enough for it to actually make a difference.
Explore Coaching →Strategic planning sessions, board retreats, and difficult conversations. We help groups move from circular discussion to clear, committed decisions — without anyone feeling steamrolled.
Explore Facilitation →Three things we
believe about this work.
Most governance and leadership failures aren’t caused by missing the sophisticated stuff. They’re caused by the basics being done badly — unclear roles, avoided conversations, decisions made in the wrong room. We fix the fundamentals first.
The facilitator who walks in with all the answers closes the room. We walk in with questions. Good questions make people think in ways they hadn’t before — and that’s where the real work gets done.
We are not vendors. Our best work happens over time, in organisations that trust us enough to be honest with us. We show up for that, long after the session ends.
We build the relationship
before we build the program.
“Your people should leave every session with something they can use the next day. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.”
One approach.
Many sectors.

Results that speak
for themselves.
The training was grounded, respectful, and practical. Our team left with tools they actually used the following week. That almost never happens with outside trainers.
He understood our context without having to be told twice. That made all the difference in how the room received the training.
The governance workshop opened conversations we had been avoiding for years. The facilitation was skilled, patient, and made space for everyone.
We have brought Palash back three times. The sessions are consistently well designed and the results stick well beyond the room.

Palash Sanyal.
The person behind the work.
Palash has spent over a decade at the intersection of governance, facilitation, and organisational development — across Canada and in over 50 countries. He has designed and delivered training for band councils, not-for-profits, international bodies, and private sector teams.
He coaches leaders, facilitates complex conversations, and advises boards. His approach is direct, relationship-first, and built around what actually works in the room.
“The most important thing a board can do is create the conditions for honest disagreement. Not harmony. Harmony is easy. Honest disagreement is where the real work happens.”
